MonkeyFilter Wiki:Request for comment

From MonkeyFilter Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This is still a fledgeling request for comment (RfC) page, but is obviously inspired by Wikipedia:Votes for deletion. Please note the review policy.

Note that the entries in this page are automagically created. Please follow the instructions in the footer for additing a new candidate for VfD. It makes everyone's life simpler.

THIS IS NOT THE PAGE FOR VOTING. Follow the prominent voting link from the actual page that is up for review.

These links have been duplicated at least twice in the Wiki. Remove please. --Alnedra 12:04, 30 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Me again.

Skrik 12:54, 30 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Thanks, Skrik, I was too chicken to actually do anything about it. --Alnedra 13:46, 30 Aug 2005 (EDT)

StormWiki

Should be in personal projectsfuyugare 04:32, 5 May 2005 (EDT)

As the creator of the StormWiki page, I have no problem with that. I am not interested in "Edit wars". However, someone who simply deletes someone else's pages, with no discussion or process (like this), is not acting in the interests of the wiki. If not discouraged, you are going to have a lot of self-annointed wiki vigilantes (and a lot more headaches).

I Agree about the edit war. Richer was out of line. I will personally make this clear to him the next time I am around him and in possession of a toilet plunger. — fuyugare 09:47, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
  • There is an entry in personal projects; unless it is later decided that projects should each have their own page, then it would be best to delete this page. Also makes it neater, since the projects on the projects page are ordered and all, with new ones at the top. --jb 09:25, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
I would argue that the two are not mutually exclusive. A short description on the projects page could lead to a fuller explanation on its own page. (This fuller explanation hasn't been done yet, because I was basically just messing around and seeing if this wiki was set up to work like mine.) Mecurious 11:41, 5 May 2005 (EDT)

I have added the contents of StormWiki to Personal projects#StormWiki. Any fuller explanation ought to be on the Storm Wiki itself, instead of on wiki.mofi. After one more day of comments, StormWiki should be changed to a simple redirect. — fuyugare 13:59, 6 May 2005 (EDT)

I have redirected StormWiki to Personal projects#StormWiki, as per what seems to be the general consensus. --tracicle 03:52, 10 May 2005 (EDT)

Suocialism

Pure graffiti — fuyugare 05:36, 5 May 2005 (EDT)

[there was a comment by Kimberly here]

Why have a wiki at all then? If this is too cliquish you might want to add the London meetup page and the most obvious new kids exercise yet page --Suo 19:18, 7 May 2005 (EDT)
This is why we can't have nice things - as suo said, we dont know why the wiki exists exactly, nor can we pin down the definition of "too cliquish." Thus why we need a wiki manifesto or something so we know what the point of this thing actually is. --Muffpub 2 21 22:10, 7 May 2005 (EDT)

The article has changed drastically since this vote for deletion was created - now there is a whole explanation of the injoke. Vote to keep. Also, When can we take a page off votes for deletion? Is there a set period of time? - jb 10:16, 8 May 2005 (EDT)

5 days, i think? that's according to wikipedia rules from what i understand. we need to clarify that too when we make some rules. -Muffpub 2 21 11:42, 8 May 2005 (EDT)

I vote to keep also. Dj 03:41, 10 May 2005 (EDT)

To my knowledge, a page never technically leaves the VfD page but just sort of scrolls off as new things are added -- which is quickly on Wikipedia. I see two votes to keep and one to delete, so the page stays. As an aside, I've just reformatted this particular discussion to make it follow more easily. --tracicle 03:48, 10 May 2005 (EDT)

What does this have to do with MoFi? — fuyugare 05:46, 5 May 2005 (EDT)

You probably guessed my vote on this one, but what the hell: keep. I think the fact that something is created by a monkey is enough reason to include it on the wiki. There is tremendous potential for this wiki to evolve into a space for creative, interrelated projects, and I think that a light touch, even on seemingly nonsensical or "graffitoed" entries will be rewarding in ways that we cannot currently predict. What does this have to do with MoFi? — fuyugare 05:48, 5 May 2005 (EDT)

I dunno... what are we supposed to post here? -Rolypolyman 11:16, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
I would have expected some connection to MoFi. Something any other old-timer monkey might instantly recognise. But, perhaps this metric is bad. Changing my vote to keep. — fuyugare 17:24, 5 May 2005 (EDT)

When did monkeys start to delete things? I thought we just piled poo on them and went on to more fun stuff?

We got two ideas about what this is supposed to be. Some of us are looking at this as a utility for making mofi things more efficient, some of us are looking at it like it's a toy. Count me among the latter and make my vote "keep." -Nickdanger 09:41, 6 May 2005 (EDT)

[deleted by poster]

The point is that it' *funny*. And anything becomes less funny once you start pointing at it and saying "hey guys, look, a joke!". The moment of disorientation where you're trying to figure out "is this a joke or is it serious?" is an integral part of the humor. Once we start explaining our jokes, whether innies or outies, we start killing them. -Nickdanger 22:55, 7 May 2005 (EDT)

I think it's pretty funny, but I also think that, in the current discussion of what/for whom the wiki is, that, above everything else, good categorization is the key. I'm inclined to think that things like this can go into some category like "miscellany" or the like, or even probably more appropriately, would better be on rolypolyman's personal site and linked from either Personal Projects, his User Page, or both.

So I guess my vote is moving it under rolypolyman's user page, an appopriately labelled "misc" category or delete. Again, the Philco page is funny, but that's what our own sites are for. With appropriate links, of course. --Chimaera 12:08, 9 May 2005 (EDT)

I'm leaving this page as is. If, in the future, people agree that it needs to be filed under the user's page, it can be brought back here for a new discussion. --tracicle 04:01, 10 May 2005 (EDT)
What if the Philco page is essentially: "Here's a bizarre joke, improve on it and make it funnier if you like." Would that still be appropriate for a User Page even if I'm casting it out as public domain? --Rolypolyman 14:57, 10 May 2005 (EDT)

anti-thirded. It's funny. he's going for a monkey creation story. Keep.-Nickdanger 22:58, 7 May 2005 (EDT)

Kept. --tracicle 04:03, 10 May 2005 (EDT)
Why? Kimberly's (now deleted) vote was also to delete. Incidentally, please remove the RfC notice from the page once you take an administrative decision, in order to reduce confusion. — fuyugare 12:30, 10 May 2005 (EDT)
And I've already explained elsewhere why deleting comments isn't a good idea. I didn't realise she'd voted. As far as I knew it was tied, so I left it. Thank you for reminding me, I'll add "remove the RfC notices" to the fifteen other things I'm trying to remember/keep track of right now. --tracicle 05:27, 11 May 2005 (EDT)
And make me a sandwich, would you? Oh - and a cup of coffee. Thanks. --The quidnunc kid 07:20, 11 May 2005 (EDT)
/cries --tracicle 16:08, 11 May 2005 (EDT)

So the question is, does a deleted comment still count as a vote?

Oh, and I'm pretty sure that a request for a sandwich equals a vote to keep. Which means the good guys are winning!--Nickdanger 13:33, 16 May 2005 (EDT)

I hope she doesn't mind me saying so, but we talked about it in email and she said she'd withdrawn her vote completely, hence the deletion. So it's still kept. --tracicle 15:52, 16 May 2005 (EDT)
Actually, an addendum: can I request further editing of this page, which is officially called a stub, so it's justifiable to keep? This is sort of a serious request. Maybe just something to explain it's relevance (if there is any), or, jeez, I don't know, something. --tracicle 15:54, 16 May 2005 (EDT)

Graffiti. A fully-fleshed-out page or some context might sway me, but if it doesn't happen soon I vote to del33t. --Bone 21:51, 16 May 2005 (EDT)
