MonkeyFilter Wiki talk:Request for comment
From MonkeyFilter Wiki
The VfD procedure is staying on the MoFiWiki. Here's a little more information about how to use it. I can add this to the main VfD page later when all questions have been answered and we have a comprehensive explanation of how the procedure works.
Your first place to look is the Wikipedia VfD page, which gives a good summary of the purpose and basic procedure. Obviously our grounds for deletion won't be the same because people using this wiki aren't exactly looking for unbiased articles on stuff. We still need to hash out what should qualify for the VfD page but hopefully it'll be a short list of easily identified issues. We can talk about that on What_is_this_wiki_for?.
Fuyu has given a good summary of the routine for adding a page to the VfD pages, so I won't repeat that.
A page sits on VfD for five days, after which the votes are tallied (by me, or anyone else who has moderator status), and appropriate action is taken. The possible outcomes are deletion, keeping it in its current state, or editing/expanding/rewriting the page in question. We've already seen a few examples where a rewrite has been requested and they could be brought over here for discussion.
Anything to add/discuss, please do.

I'm trying to replicate the VfD functionality of Wikipedia. It may be Quixotic, but Wikipedia's review process at least has the benefit of practicability. — fuyugare 04:48, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
- I honestly don't think there's any need for this; it's taking the whole wiki thing way too seriously, we don't have enough content for it to be an issue. On Wikipedia it makes perfect sense because people are using it for real research and you want to keep the noise as low as you can; here people are just going to want to play around, learn how to use it properly and have some fun. Not to mention that you can't technically delete a wiki page -- only the content thereof -- in any case. In the case of rolypolyman's accidental page creation it would be quicker and easier to just delete the content like he asked -- likewise it's quicker and as easy to simply move the StormWiki page to Personal Projects and leave a brief note at the source explaining why. I just don't see the need to make it as formal as Wikipedia is, and scare people off when it's just gotten started. --tracicle 06:03, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
- All right. I humbly withdraw my proposal then. — fuyugare 06:13, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
- By the way, WikiSysop can actually semi-permanently delete a page. (It remains in the database if you want to undelete.) — fuyugare 09:17, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
- Ah, Mike reckoned it couldn't be. Ha. :) --tracicle 15:30, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
- I've been trying to figure out where on wiki.monkeyfilter to discuss this whole issue, and was hedging on putting it in Community: Talk. But after reading the thread above, I guess this is it. My feelings are that wiki.monkeyfilter should be kept fun and creative. I am really excited by the potential here for all things bizarre, creative, and unusual, like a "fun Wikipedia", subject to common-sense moderation. I keep checking wiki.monkeyfilter during the day to see what kind of weird and unexpected stuff has been posted. My Philco computer entry was written 15 years ago and has never been posted on the Internets. It's just another dumb expression of "me", and I'd like to see stuff like this from other monkeys. My $0.02, and a vote for a fun Wiki. And maybe a front page MoFi link so more people will come. -Rolypolyman 16:21, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
- As far as I can tell, Tracy has soundly and finally decided in your favour, roly. There isn't even an issue left to discuss. You will have your fun and creative wiki, just as you desire. — fuyugare 17:14, 5 May 2005 (EDT)
