What is radio free #mofirc?
radio free #mofirc (pronounced "mow-firk") is a collaborative online radio station run by the regular members of the IRC channel #mofirc, which is the chat channel loosely attached to Monkeyfilter.
Members of #mofirc have worked together on small projects before but this online radio station is our most ambitious collective effort yet. (It is, however, a hobby; not a professional or paid project in any way.)
Our suggested motto/tagline is: Te audire non possum. Musa sapientum fixa ext in aure ("I can't hear you. I have a banana in my ear").
What do you play?
Some of everything. Seriously. Our regular DJs have quite diverse tastes and we play whatever we enjoy. DJ sets are booked on our Google Calendar and are usually identified by theme or music type. (Occasionally setlists are posted by the DJs to their Google Calendar booking for that particular set; just click on the set name to see.)
You can check out our list of DJs (and their musical tastes) on the radio free #mofirc DJs page.
How do I listen in?
- Go to our LoudCity page or http://ct5.fast-serv.com:9796
- Open the "Listen" link in your favourite music player (iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp, XMMS, take your pick)
- If you need the direct link, it is http://ct5.fast-serv.com:9796/listen.pls
So, what's playing when?
Have a look at our broadcast schedule (on Google Calendar). You can subscribe to the broadcast schedule (and get a prettier weekly representation) by clicking here.
We are committed to maintaining 24/7 uptime and have managed it since our sixth day on the air (even overnights!). But we're not professionals and we're not using professional equipment, so if you hear the "stay tuned" message it means our DJs are switching over or having a momentary technical difficulty. Do stay tuned; someone will be broadcasting again within a minute or two.
Sometimes you will see spots open on the Google Calendar. Rest assured they will be filled by broadcast time. There are Monkeys in #mofirc 24/7 because our membership is international, so there is almost always someone willing to take a last-minute set (and if there isn't, the current DJ will extend their set).
Is this legal?
Yes. We have a LoudCity license to cover our butts legally.
These are the DMCA requirements for broadcast, as provided by LoudCity, that all our DJs need to follow.
I'd like to DJ on radio free #mofirc!
